met up with a good friend last night and had an intellectually stimulating conversation. about affecting our country's youth. about breaking stereotypes. about sportsmanship in singapore. i think the conversation really revealed the similarities of our thinking (some) and it really did inspire me at one point to go into teaching. it showed us both what was wrong with the country's systems.
we talked about how our nation's people are very reluctant or unwilling to broaden their views. they are still very inflexible in their mindsets. and boy do they have either weird or hard-as-stone mindsets. we talked about humans in general are selective (in listening and seeing) creatures. we talked about how we could affect the youth, how we can as 'socially responsible' people teach the young the proper tools and ways of filtering information that we receive in masses everyday. we talked about how should we go about educating these young boys and girls; how not to believe everything at point blank, to question what has been placed in front of them, to be able to evaluate the answers that have been presented and then coming to their own conclusion. to be able to think for themselves.
it's hard to talk about morals or beliefs so concretely, simply because the meaning of these words has been chewed and thrown out. they no longer hold the same meaning 10 years prior. everything is be redefined. we all need to be more willing to learn.
okie i acutally don't really rem what exactly we talked about. and i think that the post should deserve a more well thought out writing. so hence i shall end here. hope you got what i'm trying to put across. once again. thank you for listening.
sidenote: education is slowly becoming a commodity that the poor cannot afford. i disagree with this. it should be something that reaches everyone, poor or rich, young or old. it should not become something that has to be purchased with money.
